Lenoir, North Carolina

  • Welcome

Google is proud to call North Carolina home to one of our data centers.

In 2007, we announced plans to construct a data center complex in Caldwell County, North Carolina — investing $1.2 billion in the facility and establishing a long-term commitment to the region and state. We've created more than 250 jobs on the expanded, fully operational site, and we work hard to support the communities in which our employees live and work.

Since 2009, we've invested more than $5.5 million in local schools and nonprofits. We've invested in several green initiatives, including a collaboration with Duke University and Duke Energy to turn hog waste at a Yadkin County farm into renewable energy. We also support educational initiatives in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through partnerships, events, and programs.

    • About Community

      In the community

At Google, we’re committed to playing a positive role in every community in which we operate around the world. Through investments and local initiatives that utilize our tools and expertise, we’re working to help businesses, educational institutions, community collaboratives, nonprofits, and individuals create and thrive in a sustainable, knowledge-based economy. We are always on the lookout for opportunities for Googlers to share their time and expertise with the local community.

Google's community contributions by the numbers:
$1.2 billion: Investment in Lenoir/Caldwell County since the data center was built in 2007.
$5.5 million: Total invested in nonprofits and schools in North Carolina since 2008.
50%: Percent less energy consumed at Google facilities, compared to a typical data center.

    • In Community

      Partnerships and events

Google works with local organizations to sponsor several community events each year, from promoting science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education to helping small businesses get online. These efforts culminate with our annual NC Gravity Games, a competition for students to design and build gravity-powered cars, then race them through the streets of Lenoir.
    • Community Grants

      Community investments

Google’s community investment program supports organizations and initiatives that focus on issues we’re passionate about, including education, sustainability, access to the internet and technology, economic growth, health and science, and the arts.

Since 2008, we’ve invested more than $4 million in North Carolina nonprofits and schools. In 2016, we piloted the Rolling Study Halls program in Caldwell County to address the needs of K-12 students facing long round-trip commutes to school, who also came from homes without internet access. That program has now gone national to several Google communities throughout the country.
